Auburn University hosted two combination workshops for the Catfish TAA program on November 9 & 10. Terry Hanson led the training and covered the Initial Orientation and also a 3-hr Intensive session focusing on financial management.

TAAforFarmers.org Instructions
For TAA applicants interested in setting up a TAA for Farmers online account, which allows the user to track progress and complete Initial Orientation and Intensive training courses online, feel free to download the instructions listed here. This is a step-by-step set of instructions with everything thing you need to register, login and even complete your Initial Orientation online using the www.TAAforFarmers.org website.

Initial Orientation Deadline -- December 22
For all TAA for Farmers applicants for catfish, asparagus and shrimp (if you applied before September 24) you MUST complete Initial Orientation before December 22, 2010. Please see www.TAAforFarmers.org for possible locations near you. All approved applicants must complete the Initial Orientation by December 22, 2010 in order to be eligible to receive benefits under the TAA for Farmers program.
The Initial Orientation for TAA for Farmers for all approved commodities will be available online beginning November 8. To take online courses for credit, view status toward completion, and to complete all required phases of TAA, you need to sign up at www.TAAforFarmers.org for an account. There are instructions for registering for your account available on the TAA site listed above. If you have questions or problems signing up for an account on the TAA site please email: info@TAAforFarmers.org or call: (612) 625-1964. If you would like to complete training online, but do not have high speed internet, please consider your local public library, contact your local University Cooperative Extension office or contact us at the Southern RME Center by email: srtaa@uark.edu or phone: (501) 671-2165 to help you identify a location.

Group Approval Granted for Catfish TAA Applicants
We received word today that Group Approval has been granted to catfish producers that apply or have already applied for benefits under the TAA for Farmers Program for Catfish (Catfish petition # 2010001). TAA applicants in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, and California are included in this group approval. This approval by FAS means that applicants that otherwise meet program eligibility requirements are not required to certify or document their eligibility under Options 1, 2, or 3. Applicants are still required to document that they were catfish producers for the 2009 crop and in one of the three immediately preceding marketing years, and to meet other eligibility requirements as provided in 1-SP. Please contact your local FSA agent to find out more. The application deadline is September 23rd so act quickly to participate in the TAA for Farmers Catfish Program.

Educational Materials in Spanish (Materiales educativos en español)
In an effort to serve our Spanish speaking community, the SRMEC hired a translator to prepare some educational materials in Spanish. These materials are provided for educational purposes only and not as a substitute for advice from your local FSA office. Please contact your local FSA office for details on how to apply for TAA program for farmers. As with any translation, these materials are not perfect but we hope it does provide some support for our Spanish speaking friends. There are three groups of materials provided here: a letter and instructions issued to 1) of shrimp fishermen and farmers, 2) catfish farmers (all species) and 3) asparagus farmers. En un esfuerzo por servir a nuestra comunidad de habla española, la SRMEC contrató a un traductor para preparar algunos materiales educativos en español. Estos materiales se proporcionan para los propósitos educativos solamente y no como un sustituto para el consejo de su oficina local de la FSA. Por favor, póngase en contacto con su oficina local de la FSA para obtener detalles sobre cómo aplicar para el programa TAA para los agricultores. Como con cualquier traducción, estos materiales no son perfectos pero esperamos que el material ofrece cierto apoyo a nuestros amigos de habla española.
